New-look Nib Adds Directors To Board

LEADING the race to public listing, Newcastle-based health fund NIB has appointed two executives with experience in the insurance industry.
NIB is set to become the first private health insurer in Australia to list on the Australian Securities Exchange, on November 1.New directors Brian Keane, who lives near Wollongong, and Harold Bentley, of Sydney, will be appointed to the NIB board after the fund is listed.They will join chairman Keith Lynch, Mark Fitzgibbon (chief executive officer and managing director) and directors Janet Dore, Dr Annette Carruthers and Phil Gardner.Directors Michael Slater, David Brewer and Grahame Cannon retired recently.Mr Bentley has about 20 years' experience in insurance and expertise in the transformation of private companies to listed organisations.He used to be chief financial officer of Promina Group.Mr Keane is a director of CSIRO, Lawcover, Aurora Energy, the Holland Insurance Company, chairman of MTA Insurance Agency and a member of the Australian Competition Tribunal.NIB's company members and eligible policyholders approved the proposal to demutualise and list on the exchange in July.Australia's second-biggest health fund, MBF, has plans to follow suit.
