MBF Insurance

With nearly two million members, MBF Insurance is Australia's largest privately owned and managed health insurer. MBF Insurance currently provides health insurance to approximately 20% of the health insured population. Aside from health insurance, MBF also provides travel insurance, term life insurance, income protection, trauma cover, financial planning for retirement, access to reverse mortgages. MBF Insurance, as an added-value service by providing lifestyle management services that enhance health. MBF Insurance currently employs approximately 1,400 staff throughout Australia.

In 1946, MBF Insurance Australia started in New South Wales, with a group of 945 doctors contributing to the company's start-up funds. Operations of MBF Insurance began in 1947, with 91 members enrolled. Steady growth ensued and, in 2004, MBF Insurance acquired NRMA Health, NRMA Life and ClearView Retirement Solutions from Insurance Australia Group. In 2005, a complete rebranding of the Group was conducted, solidifying the MBF Insurance brand.

MBF Insurance products

MBF Insurance Australia is primarily a provider of health and life insurance. Also, it dispenses financial advice to customers. MBF Insurance operates in two segments: health insurance and financial services. Activities of these segments involve the reimbursement of hospital, medical and ancillary-related services, the provision of services that promote the health of its members and the provision of life insurance products that include death cover, trauma and accident insurance. MBF Insurance also operates a financial and advisory service primarily to mature age customers. Lastly, MBF Insurance provides for the superannuation and investment products including the management of a group of investment trusts.

MBF Insurance also operates MBF Travel, which provides for MBF travel insurance. This product, although not as popular as the health and life insurance segments of MBF's businesses, has been available to MBF customers for over fifteen years, primarily to travelers.

The MBF Foundation

As part of MBF's ongoing contribution and commitment to the community, MBF Insurance established the MBF Foundation. The MBF Foundation is a charitable institution that investment a portion of the MBF Group's income to support and manage important community health initiatives. The MBF Foundation uses a majority of its funding to seek out partnerships with other organisations in addressing health concerns.
